La historia de este municipio gaditanose remonta al periodo Neolítico, comoqueda reflejado en los yacimientos delas cuevas de Chamusquina, Castillejoy Cueva Santa, al igual que diversosvestigios íberos y romanos que infun-den en la localidad la importancia dehaber sido una pieza clave durante lacolonización latina. Ocupada por eldomino de los árabes de Tarik Bajo,sufrieron bajo la dependencia de suvecina Zahara (Al-Shara) hasta que lo-gró su independencia a finales del si-glo XVI. En el año 1817, Algodonalesrecibió el título de ciudad y el reconoci-miento de sus amplios territorios, quese extienden hasta la Sierra de Líjar.Posteriormente, en el año 1810, la sie-rra es ocupada por las tropas napoleó-nicas y desde esa fecha, cada 1 y 2 demayo, se rememora con una recrea-ción histórica, en la que participa todala población, el ataque que sufrió laciudad por parte del ejército francés.

El urbanismo de esta bella localidadgaditana se desarrolló en la Edad Mo-derna, siguiendo un modelo de distri-bución similar a la arquitectura emple-ada por la cultura árabe en la región.Las calles diseñadas en función de loscaminos rurales, la sombra de las co-pas de los árboles durante los caluro-sos días de verano, el blanco de la cal

en sus paredes -característico de lospueblos blancos andaluces- y su olor aazahar son rasgos característicos deeste municipio. Al mismo tiempo po-see una gran variedad de espacios na-turales que brindan la posibilidad derealizar actividades en contacto direc-to con la naturaleza. Algodonales es,por lo tanto, un lugar idóneo para lapráctica de deportes aéreos como elparapente, el ala delta o el vuelo de ul-traligeros y de otras actividades comoel senderismo, la escalada, el puen-ting o la espeleología.

El motor de su economía reside en unaintensa actividad agraria que da lugara un excelente y saludable productocomo es el aceite de oliva virgen y vir-gen extra de sabor afrutado. Ya en elapartado estrictamente culinario des-tacan sus platos elaborados a base desabrosas verduras como el potaje detagarninas y una repostería con deno-tada influencia árabe en la que sobre-salen el gañote, los pestiños y la pasta-flora, todos ellos con un marcadoacento andalusí que harán las deliciasde los más exquisitos paladares.

Algodonales no puede obviar una desus pedanías más importantes, LaMuela, situada al nordeste de la pro-vincia de Cádiz, con una altitud mediade 465 m sobre el nivel del mar. Sepuede decir que hoy en día el munici-pio de Algodonales se compone delnúcleo principal y de la pedanía de LaMuela. Una de las rutas fuera del cas-co urbano es la subida a la Sierra de Lí-jar a la que se accede por un macizorocoso a través de la aldea de La Mue-la. Desde esta pedanía se puede ad-mirar un paisaje único nutrido de enci-nas, quejigos, algarrobos, buitres leo-nados, orquídeas o narcisos.

La Sierra de Líjar, es un lugar ide-al para la práctica de deportes aéreos como el parapente, el ala delta y elvuelo en ultraligero. También se pueden realizar actividades como el sen-derismo, escalada, puenting y espeleología. En el río Guadalete, que atra-viesa su término, se puede practicar piragüismo.

La cocina de Algodonales es famosa por su aceite, carnes y una repostería ri-quísima con clara influencia árabe. Sus productos y platos más sobresalien-tes son las aceitunas partidas, el potaje de tagarninas, las sopas tostadascon espárragos y productos cárnicos de inconfundible sabor por la mezcla desus especias, la calidad de sus carnes y elaboración artesanal. Todos elloscondimentados con el aceite de oliva elaborado en sus molinos. En su repos-tería destacan el gañote, los pestiños y la pasta-flora, en los que se puedeoler su marcada influencia andalusí.

The cuisine of Algodonales is famous for its oil, meat and rich confectio-nary, which has a clear Arab influence. Its most outstanding products anddishes are split olives, vegetable stew with thistles, roasted asparagussoup and meat products of unbeatable flavour with the mixture of spices.The meat is of top quality and dishes are made using traditional methods.They are all flavoured with olive oil manufactured in local presses. Die Küche von Algodonales ist berühmt für ihr Öl, ihr Fleisch und die lec-keren Nachtische mit klar arabischem Einfluss. Herausragende Produkteund Gerichte sind die aufgebrochenen Oliven, die Goldwurzelsuppe, dun-kle Suppen mit Spargel, sowie verschiedene Fleischprodukte, die dankder Gewürze, der Qualität des Fleischs und der kunstvollen Zubereitungvon unvergesslichem Geschmack sind. Alle mit Olivenöl aus den eigenenMühlen abgeschmeckt. Bei den Süßspeisen bestechen der Gañote, diePestiños und die Pasta-flora, aus denen man den ausgeprägt arabisch-andalusischen Einfluss herausschmeckt.

Podemos destacar la fiesta del 2 de mayo, conmemorando la resistencia de

los algodonaleños en 1810 a las tropas francesas. El último domingo de ma-

yo, se celebra la romería de Algodonales, y el primer domingo del mismo mes

la romería de la pedanía de La Muela. El Corpus Christi tiene especial impor-

tancia. En julio, la Feria y Fiestas de Santiago y Santa Ana, y la Feria y Fiestas

en honor a la Virgen del Carmen en La Muela.

Hervorzuheben ist der 2. Mai. An diesem Tag gedenkt man mit einer Feier

dem Widerstand der Einwohner von Algodonales anno 1810 gegen die

französischen Truppen. Am letzten Sonntag im Mai gibt es die Pilgerfahr-

ten der Virgencita de la Sierra und der Gemeinde von La Muela. Auch die

zu Ehren des Corpus Christi hat besondere Bedeutung. Am letzten Sonn-

tag im Mai findet die Wallfahrt von Algodonales, am ersten Sonntag des

gleichen Monats die Wallfahrt des Ortsteils La Muela statt.

Herausragend sind die archäologischen Fundstätten des Cerro de laBotinera sowie die 1745 erbaute Kirche Santa Ana, deren Stil zwis-chen Barock und Klassizismus anzusiedeln ist. Das Rathausgebäudeist als regional-andalusische Architektur katalogisier t. Die Einsiede-lei La Ermita de la Concepción aus dem 18. Jahrhundert ist in volks-tümlicher Architektur gehalten, die Wallfahrtskirche La Ermita de Je-sús Nazareno aus dem 19. Jahrhundert im neoklassischen Stil. DesWeiteren die öf fentlichen Brunnen und Waschplätze, die auf das 19.Jahrhundert zurückgehen.

The history of this Cádiz town begins in the Neolithic period, still visible at the sites at theChamusquina, Castillejo and CuevaSanta caves, as well as a variety ofIberian and Roman ruins showing thelocation's importance as a keystoneof Latin colonization. Occupied by theArabs of Tarik Bajo, they suffered un-der domination of neighbouringZahara (Al-Shara) finally achievingindependance at the end of the 16thcentury. In the year 1817,Algodonales received the title of cityand the recognition of its extensiveterritories, which stretch as far asSierra de Líjar. Later, in the year1810, the mountain range was occu-pied by Napoleonic troops and sincethat time, each 1st and 2nd of Maythis is commemorated by a historicreenactment of the attack on the cityby the French army in which all the ci-tizens take part.

The layout of this beautiful Cádiz lo-cation developed in the Modern Era,

Die Geschichte dieser Gemeinde inder Provinz Cadiz geht auf das neoli-thische Zeitalter zurück, wie Fundein den Höhlen von Chamusquina,Castillejo und Cueva Santa bezeu-gen. Es finden sich auch diverseSpuren der Iberer und Römer, die derOrtschaft einst eine Schlüsselrolle inder lateinischen Kolonisierung ver-liehen. In der Zeit der Besetzungdurch die Araber des Tarik Bajo littAlgodonales unter der Abhängigkeitdes angrenzenden Zahara (Al-Shara)bis es schließlich Ende des 16. Jahr-hundert seine Unabhängigkeit er-langte. Im Jahre 1817 erhielt Algodonales das Stadtrecht und dieAnerkennung seiner weitläufigen Te-rritorien, die sich bis zur Sierra de Lí-jar erstrecken. Anno 1810 wurde dieSierra von napoleonischen Truppeneingenommen. Seit diesem Datumgedenkt man jeden 1. und 2. Mai miteiner historischen Aufführung desAngriffs der französischen Truppenauf die Stadt, an welcher die gesam-te Bevölkerung teilnimmt.

Der weitere Ausbau dieses hübschenOrtes in der Provinz Cádiz entwickeltesich in der Neuzeit. Die Aufteilungfolgte dabei einem Modell ähnlichdem durch die arabische Kultur in dieRegion eingeführten. Die Straßen,angelegt als Landwege, liegen wäh-rend der heißen Sommermonate imSchatten der Baumkronen, und ne-ben dem Weiß der Kalkwände - cha-rakteristisch für die weißen andalu-sischen Dörfer - ist ihr Orangenblü-tenduft Kennzeichen dieser Gemein-de. Gleichzeitig gibt es eine Vielzahlan Naturräumen, die die Möglichkeitbieten, Aktivitäten im direkten Kon-takt mit der Natur auszuüben. Algodonales ist daher ein idealer Ortfür Flugsportarten wie Gleitschirm-Drachen- oder Ultralleichtflugzeugfliegen, sowie für andere Aktivitätenwie Wandern, Bergklettern, Bungee-Jumping oder Höhlenerforschung.

Der Motor seiner Wirtschaft liegt inder intensiven Landwirtschaft, diehervorragende bekömmliche Erzeug-nisse hervorbringt, wie das native Oli-venöl mit fruchtigem Bukett. Im gas-tronomischen Bereich bestechen Ge-richte, die auf wohlschmeckendemGemüse und Eintöpfen wie der Gold-wurzelsuppe basieren, sowie Süßs-peisen mit markantem arabischen

Einfluss. Darunter sind der Gañote [inZuckerrohr mit Eiern, Mehl, Zimt, Zuc-ker], die Pestiños [längliches Ölge-bäck] und die Pasta-flora [Quittenge-bäck] hervorzuheben, alle mit einemausgeprägt arabisch-andalusischenAkzent, die keinen Feinschmeckergleichgültig lassen.

Algodonales darf einen seiner wich-tigsten Ortsteile nicht übergehen - LaMuela, das im Nordosten der ProvinzCádiz auf einer mittleren Höhe von465 m über dem Meeresspiegel liegt.Man kann sagen, dass sich die Ge-meinde Algodonales heute aus demHauptort und dem Ortsteil La Muelazusammensetzt.
