IGNACIO PREGO

Ignacio Prego is recipient of the 2005 AECI Grant (International Cooperation Spanish Agency), the 2009 CajaMadrid Foundation Grant and the 2014 The English Concert-Harry Bicket Fellowship. After graduating with high honors in the Padre Antonio Soler Conservatory in Madrid, he continued his studies in the USA with Luiz de Moura Castro and Emile Naoumoff. He then studied harpsichord at the Indiana University with Elisabeth Wright. In August 2012 Ignacio joined the ‘Historical Performance’ program at The Juilliard School in New York, studying with Kenneth Weiss and Richard Egarr, and working with visiting artists such as Jordi Savall, Harry Bicket, Lars Ulrik Mortensen and Monica Huggett. He is also First Prize winner at the 2012 Westfield International Harpsichord Competition.

Spanish soprano Sabina Puértolas studied at the Pamplona Conservatoire, the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and the Accademia Verdiana in Busseto. She is the winner of the international singing competitions Riccardo Zandonai in Rovereto, Julián Gayarre in Pamplona, Francisca Quart in Palma de Mallorca and Manuel Ausensi in Barcelona.

During October we had the pleasure of enjoying her performance at “El Barbero de Sevilla” with the role of Rosina.

Representatives from Japan, China and Spain shared highlights of their different programs and how they support the teaching and learning of their respective languages in the State of Washington.

Representantes educativos de Japón, China y España presentaron de forma conjunta a docentes del estado de Washington los diversos programas con los que apoyan el aprendizaje de las respectivas lenguas en el sistema educativo de Washington.

TRAINING FOR TEACHERS OF SPANISH LANGUAGE

La Universidad de Washington y el Instituto Cervantes unen su experiencia para ofrecer este taller de formación para profesores de español titulado “La enseñanza de la gramática: qué, cómo y cuándo enseñar gramática en la clase de ELE”. Carmen Blánquez, jefa de estudios del Instituto Cervantes de Chicago, y Olga Chapado, jefa de estudios del Instituto Cervantes de Manila, fueron las ponentes invitadas.

El propósito del taller es brindar una orientación didáctica para el aula y, a la vez, servir como guía en el desarrollo de las competencias docentes necesarias para enfrentarse a los retos de la práctica.

The University of Washington and Instituto Cervantes jointly present this workshop for Spanish teachers entitled "The teaching of grammar: what, how and when to teach grammar in class", and it was presented by Carmen Blánquez, Head of studies at Instituto Cervantes de Chicago, and Olga Chapado, Head of studies at Instituto Cervantes de Manila.

The workshop will provide a didactic orientation to take into the classroom as well as will guide in the development of the teaching skills necessary to face the challenges in this context.

“Cine e Historia en la clase ELE”

This workshop will make us reflect on the advantages of using cinema in class and will provide tools to guide us in the selection of films as well as the elements we should take into consideration when analyzing them.

Speaker: Ramón Flores PinedoRamón is a Spanish instructor at the University of Washington and a Masters student in Hispanic Studies. During 2016-17, he focused on the study of the cinema of Luis García Berlanga and presented the result of his research at the IV Edition of the International Congress of History, Art and Literature in Cinema in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Salamanca in June 2017.

En este taller se reflexionará sobre las ventajas de utilizar el cine en clase y se proporcionaran herramientas que sirvan de guía en la selección de los filmes y escenas, así como los elementos a considerar al analizarlos.

Ponente: Ramón Flores PinedoRamón es instructor de español en la Universidad de Washington y estudiante de la maestría en Estudios Hispánicos. Durante 2016 y 2017 se centró en el estudio del cine de Luis García Berlanga y presentó el resultado de su investigación en la IV Edición del Congreso Internacional Historia, Arte y Literatura en el Cine en Español y Portugués en la Universidad de Salamanca en junio de 2017.

The annual meeting of the Education Office of Spain in the US was held this year in Salt Lake City, Utah, from October 23 to 27. The different programs offered in this country were considered and assessed.

Four teachers from Puesta del Sol Elementary School in Bellevue, WA traveled to Spain this summer as the school was awarded second prize in the 2016 School of the Year contest. A dream come true!
