Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cul-tures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eucharist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.

From the Pastor

“A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord,

make straight his paths”.

John makes an appearance in the most briefest way at advent yet a very powerful one. His role was to introduce Jesus and step away. The above quotation summarizes him best - “A voice crying out”. The most important tasks that are mentioned about John include baptizing, preaching to incite repentance, humility before God, and interior preparedness to receive the Messiah. He does it so well and selflessly making sure Jesus' prominence is spelled out. "He who comes will baptize with the Holy Spirit and is mightier that I", he says. This selfless cry out is for us as well who await the birth of the Messiah, one more time this year but more importantly this time in our hearts. In our busy times of the day, do we hear John's voice - seeking us out? What could be our crooked ways that need to be straightened up? How ready are we to receive baby Jesus? Let us not miss this opportunity, let us cultivate a spirit of readiness, - prepare the way – the Messiah is coming! St. Colette Pray for us.

Peace,

Fr. Mahonge

Paz, P. Mahonge

To Parents: Kairos, the Lord’s time, is a Christian expe-rience of prayer and reflection run by a team of adults and students. This is a rare time in a teen’s life to step back from stress and pressure to gain some perspective and in-sight on what’s important in their lives, all in a safe and fun environment. To the Teens: Why? This is the question you should really ask! Why should I spend time reflecting on my life at a retreat? It is hard to know until you have tried. Maybe you are scared about going off to college. Maybe you are trying to decide if you want to go to college. Maybe you are searching. Maybe you are stressed and distracted. Maybe you don’t know if God really cares. Maybe you need time away to reflect and re-energize. There are so many reasons those who have already gone on Kairos could give you about why you should go, but first you have to choose to trust them. Thousands of teens go on Kairos each year. They go and discover who they really are and how they want to live. So clear your school, sports, work schedules NOW! They come for their own reasons. All leave changed. Maybe the best reason to go is that someone cares enough about you to invite you. Talk to past Kairos participants, youth ministers or priests and ask them why. Even if your decision is not to go, you owe it to yourself to explore why so many people consider that a retreat is an essential experience in your life.

Be Bold and Courageous, Take a Chance!!
