“El 9” was the crib of Mexican counterculture nightlife in the 80’s thanks to its high society cocktail parties, art mural exhibitions, magazine publishing, cabaret theater, movie club, disco and live rock performances. Rock stars debuted at “El 9”. Its final closure in 1989 came about as the outcome of a tragic combination of circumstances: its partner’s ambitious plans to expand the business, the surge of drugs and AIDS and conflicts with law enforcing agencies. Its closure has left a void that cannot be filled.

That the government of Venezuela would ask Fernando Alcaráz, an undertaker from Medellin, for his luxury hearse—a glass-sided ’98 Lincoln—for the funeral procession of the departed Hugo Chávez was an honor that filled him with pride. Hearses like his were not easy to come by. He said yes right away. Free of charge. And the Lincoln was taken to Caracas for its date with history. The problem would be getting it back.

Viento Libre (Free Wind), Buenos Aires (Good Airs) and Nuevo Milenio (New Milenium) are awesome names for complex realities of these neighborhoods. Within them, invisible borders of fear traced by war are a stand. More than 10 thousand people live in this city over the sea, built over the last 20 years in the Pacific Colombian Coast: Tumaco. Is a portait of an enclosed territory of neighborhoods trapped into a prison without walls. It’s an intent to understand the particular strength of these communities who are able to build over the waves and endure the worst storms.

Rosa María, a lower-class housekeeper, travels across Colombia in order to unearth her younger son from a common pit. The official report is that Carlos died in combat against the army, but Rosa refuses to believe that her son was a guerrilla rebel. With help from David Fernando, her older son, she starts an investigation revealing that Carlos was not the only one who died in that blurred combat. As soon as the investigation starts, a national scandal blows away: Colombian Army plotted several massacres benefiting from a casualty reward based policy.
