11TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the mustard seed to explain faith and the kingdom of God. The mustard seed is tiny, but it grows into an amazingly large tree when fed properly. (Fun fact: the mustard seed measures 1/20 of an inch, but the smallest seed is actually that of an orchid, which measures 1/300th of an inch!) Faith is the mustard seed, and the tree is the kingdom of God, but that transition doesn’t happen automatically, and, for sure, not overnight!

We could say, too, that prayer is the cultivation of that faith. Prayer is how we care for the mustard seed and allow it to bloom and thrive. As we focus on praise to and sacrifice for God, our faith grows stronger. In the Lord’s Prayer, we pray, “thy kingdom come.” We know that it will come in its fullness at the end of time. All we need is faith.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús cuenta la parábola de la semilla

de mostaza para explicar la fe y el reino de Dios. La semilla de

mostaza es pequeña, pero crece hasta convertirse en un árbol

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
