WHAT IS IT ? Thanksgiving Day is a traditional day

for families and friends to get together for a special meal. Thanksgiving Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have.

WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS? In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and

Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is known today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

WHAT DO THEY EAT ? The meal often includes turkey,

stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables.

WHAT ARE THE SPECIAL EVENTS?

In Thanksgiving Day there are parades , a football match and it starts Christmas shopping.

Day Parade takes over Manhattan on Thursday, November 26. There are marching bands, extravagant floats and giant balloon characters. There are new character balloons, such as Red from Angry Birds, and new floats like Snoopy's Dog House.
